The elements that must be present on an invoice
Whether you are a craftsman, self-employed or even a painter, you have the obligation to establish an invoice each time you sell one of your services or a product, whether to a professional or private client. The invoice is the way to get you paid by your customers but it is also a way to convey a positive image of your business and your work by presenting your customers with a neat and complete invoice.
Whether it is an invoice from a craftsman, painter or freelance, if the invoicing methods include specificities, each must include mandatory information. They are as follows:
- The name of your company, its identification, that is to say your SIRET number and the legal status of your company. If you have a logo it is not mandatory to put it on but it can add a touch of professionalism.
- Your client's name, address and company name.
- The invoice number: Each invoice must have a unique number and be numbered in a logical order.
- The name of the product of the sale or of the service. Each sale must be indicated without a line as well as the unit price.
- The amount of the invoice with the unit price, quantities, rate and amount of VAT if applicable since autoentrepreneurs are not subject to VAT. Regarding the painter's invoice, the amount of VAT is on a case-by-case basis. Thus, for the sale of a work of art, the rate is 5.5%, for the transfer of copyright, it is 20% and for services such as advertising or commercial graphics, the VAT rate is 20%. It is possible to be exempt from VAT in the case of a micro BNC regime, a B to B transfer in the euro zone or not by indicating the appropriate mention.
- The payment date: The invoice must indicate whether you want payment when the invoice is issued or at a later date that you must specify. Likewise, indicate the terms and conditions you apply for late payment penalties.
These are the information that each invoice must include whether you are a painter, freelance or craftsman. We offer you an invoice drafting tool that contains all these mandatory information. This gives you the certainty of having invoices in due form. In addition, the calculations are carried out automatically, that of the VAT as the net payable. This will help you avoid mistakes!
Invoice adapted to the self-employed
In addition, our system adapts to all billing methods. Indeed, the self-employed bill can be established according to two different calculation methods:
- Billing by time spent: you then set up an hourly or daily rate and you multiply the time spent by this rate to obtain the amount of the invoice.
- Fixed-rate billing: it is sometimes difficult to predict the time you will spend on a task, so it may be wise to apply a fixed-price rate, that is to say that a global amount is defined for a specific task .
Our invoicing system allows you, as a freelance, to establish your invoices regardless of the type of invoicing you have set up.
